About

I’ve been an English teacher since 2004. I hold an MA in TESOL and Applied Linguistics from Portsmouth University. I’m the “Clark” in Clark and Miller, a website that focuses on giving learners a deeper understanding of how English works through online courses and a blog that often features giraffes. I can be found giving talks at conferences, cycling around post-Soviet neighbourhoods or performing music in empty bars.

Work Experience

Co-founder and chief content creator at Clark and Miller, 2016 – present

I create blog posts, teaching resources as well as offer personalised one-to-one language training for adults at all levels.

 My daily responsibilities include:

  • Providing quality English language training and instruction
  • Writing and creating images for blog posts to help advanced learners gain a deeper understanding of the English language
  • Maintaining my website and blog and organising various marketing and creative strategies to help it grown and remain engaging and relevant

Freelance online teaching at various online platforms, 2014 – present

I’ve worked with clients from around the world, from Spain to Saudi, using a variety of online teaching platforms. My clients have ranged from university students to high level managers and their needs have varied immensely. As a life-long professional language teacher, I aim to make the lessons as client focussed as possible concentrating on the learners’ needs and not on a particular syllabus. Everyone’s different!

One-to-one and classroom teacher at various institutions, 2004 – 2014

Over my career I’ve worked at a number of different institutions, chiefly private language schools, in Istanbul, Moscow and the UK. My students have ranged from multilingual teenagers to high end managers. Over this period I constantly engaged in Ongoing Professional Development.

In my courses I combine a number of teaching methodologies and approaches such as Dogme, Suggestopedia, Conversational challenge, one-to-one, Natural English, Language analysis, Callan method or Communicative Language Teaching.

Apart from teaching languages and running my website, I’ve also taught some guitar. In fact, my main hobby is music and I’ve been involved in a large variety of bands ranging from industrial punk to avant garde to alternative rock.
